Lesson Policy

Students are expected to arrive on time with materials needed for the lesson, and picked up promptly after the lesson. Parents may only sit in on the first lesson. However, this is not recommended if it will inhibit the child’s confidence and performance. The time scheduled for each student is reserved for his/her exclusive use. If a student is late the lesson will not run over the set time slot. Lessons must be taken at the appointed time (unless arranged otherwise) or forfeited.

All fees are payable in advance in full-term segments. Accounts will be issued at the start of each term and are expected to be paid by the following week. Fees may be paid by cash, cheque or direct deposit and must be paid promptly.

Cancelled/Missed Lessons

24 hours notice must be given for an absence or you will be charged for that lesson. Lessons missed because of social reasons (i.e. Birthday’s, outings etc) will not be rescheduled or refunded. Unless prior arrangement has been made, lessons missed due to illness or emergencies will be rescheduled. Lessons that fall on public holidays will be rescheduled. If for any reason I must cancel a lesson, an effort will be made to provide as much notice as possible.  An attempt will be made to reschedule all lessons cancelled by myself, however if this is not possible the lesson will not be charged for and payment will be carried over into the following month. Once a lesson has been rescheduled it will not be rescheduled again.  If the student is unable to attend a rescheduled lesson then that lesson will be forfeited and payment will not be refunded or carried over into the following month.

Termination of Lessons

Once lessons have commenced, it is expected that the student attends for at least a term before discontinuing lessons. A minimum of two weeks notice must be given before discontinuing lessons. Once payment has been issued no money will be refunded.  Therefore, if a student wishes to terminate before the end of the term, the remaining lessons will be forfeited.

Students must bring a clear file and a notebook to each lesson. Backing Tracks Breony is able to burn backing tracks onto a disc for the student to take home and practice with at a cost of $0.50 per disc.

Exams and Competitions

Students are encouraged to work towards a goal such as an exam or competition to gain experience and qualifications. Please let Breony know if you or your child would like to sit a NZ Speech Board exam, Singing exam, or enter a competition and she will organize an entry.

Students are expected to practice for any amount of time recommended by the tutor. Good practice must be organized, consistent, and involve listening, evaluating and repetition with a goal. Practicing slowly and in short sections is highly recommended.

While most students are initially excited to begin lessons, please be aware that your child will face challenges and sometimes frustrations along the way. As they become aware of the discipline and commitment required to attain excellence, your encouragement and praise will be essential to your child’s success.

Ways in which you as a parent can help…

Bring your child to lessons on time and pick them up promptly after the lesson.

Ensure that you purchase any materials required for lessons promptly.

Provide a room for practice at home which has the right equipment and is free of distractions.

Help your child to plan a time for practice into a daily routine.

Keep the practice time free of distractions and interruptions from siblings.

Encourage and praise your child’s efforts.

Be an attentive, appreciative listener.

Give feedback to the tutor on how your child is going with their lessons and practice.

All students, parents and/or guardians are kindly asked to remember that teaching is my job, not a hobby.  Therefore, these terms and conditions must be respected and adhered to at all times.
